The Gunnison Valley Animal Welfare League – a 501(c)(3) corporation and a State-licensed animal-rescue organization – serves all of Gunnison County, Colorado, including Almont, Pitkin, and the unincorporated areas.

Formerly Gunnison Animal Lovers, GVAWL is run entirely by volunteers devoted to animal welfare and animal care. Since its beginnings in 1986, the organization has found permanent, loving homes for over 2,000 companion-animals. We also have assisted income-qualified residents in spaying/neutering over 900 animals.

GVAWL’s Mission is to promote the welfare of animals by
• caring for homeless animals and placing them in permanent homes
• supporting the establishment of, and assisting in the operation of, a Valley-wide animal shelter
• assisting the community with spay/neuter costs
• preventing neglect of and cruelty to animals by educating the public about their humane treatment
