More than four million healthy companion-animals are euthanized in the U.S. every year; 43,000 of those are here in Colorado. Each year, millions more puppies and kittens are born only to meet early, cruel deaths.
Spaying/neutering not only prevents much needless suffering, it significantly improves the health and well-being of our companion-animals.
To assist income-qualified residents, GVAWL offers vouchers that cover some of the costs of spaying/neutering. The vouchers are accepted by all area veterinarians, and applications can be found at all veterinary clinics. In 2007, the amounts of these vouchers were increased, through a grant from the Animal Assistance Foundation. Other funds have come from the City of Gunnison, the County of Gunnison, and the Community Foundation of the Gunnison Valley.
